This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    4gb vs 8gb of ram? Who would notice the difference?

    Actually, aside from the fact that a lot more laptops do now come with 8GB of ram, his other points are still pertinent.

    For example, one institution I know of still use 4GB, another, is limited to 6GB. Not really enough for anything beyond the baker's variety edits.

    For the record, the biggest jump between day and night for most uses would be from 4 to 8.
