I just bought myself an LG S1-P3B3a recently and it comes equipped with an ALC880 soundcard. I know that this card supports 5.1 surround output using an S/PDIF connection, but then I discovered tonight that I can also set it so that the 3 in/output jacks actually become front speakers, rear speakers, centre/sub speakers.

I excitedly set this up and then plugged in 2 seperate sets of stereo speakers into the front and rear speaker jacks and ran a sound test to find that the front and the rear speakers played the exact same sounds. Even though this is the case, when I go into volume control and fiddle with the front and rear volume controls, the correct speakers volumes go up and down. Does anyone know why the sound comes out the same?
