I've got the same one. Not a problem, works great, good price.
Take a look:

we have several WD mybooks and they're all great. Will be buying a 500gb soon once it drops below $100.
-
I have a blue dell m1730 with 500 gigs and a western digital 400 gig one. They go well. And western digital is definitely of higher build quality than the samsung ones (which my friend has).

i was checking some reviews out and it says that the WD My Book Essential Edition External 500GB Hard Drive doesn have firewire .what exactly is meant by that...
and whats the difference between the essential edition and premium ? -
The 500gb -USB Seagate Freeagent
5 year warranty, my MB -500 only has 1 year.
On sale, $99 @ Office Depot - hurry! -
hey jus checked it out online...seems pretty good...how does it compare to the western digital mybook ?/
-
-
Yep, once you want a faster interface, look out!
Both WD and Segate jump up $40 to $100 just due to the interface. I like the multi-interface cases but the price sucks. -
It means that USB is it's only interface. Here's more on firewire.
Looks like the Essential has only USB interface and the Premium has both USB and eSATA interfaces -
I have two mybooks and two Free Agents, other than warranty and interface, I like them both. The cons are don't attempt to remove the drives unless you love puzzles and sometimes the auto on functions get confused. My Free agent pro has a brushed metal case and a base mounted electronic touch on/off switch, a choice of three interfaces, and the best looking of the bunch for front room duty.
Typical USB 2.0 transfer speed is about 50GB an hour using windows time stamps. It takes me about 7+ hours to do a full drive to drive backup during the night. Unable to clock my firewire/sata at this time. -
so between the The 500gb -USB Seagate Freeagent and the WD which one should i get ?
-
Firewire is a faster version of USB. Your laptop might have it. For picture of the port and a description, here you go
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire
And yes, I realize the spec for firewire is 400 as opposed to 480, but in practice, it runs faster.
Also, you can pick up a 1tb external at best buy for 199 and get a 10% off coupon. Don't believe the site...my store had 6 available on the shelf when I bought mine. here
(thanks scooberdoober). Also, Office Depot has a Seagate 500gb for 100 bucks and I think there's a 10$ off coupon floating around somewhere for it..but I can't find it right now. -
Good deal at CC this week.
Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500GB External Hard Drive = $90

this is crazy...some realy good deal..but i dont know which one to buy....the western digital for 90 or the Seagate Freeagent. which one would be a better more reliable one since both arre nearly the same price...the only way i look at it is with the seagate i get a 5 year warranty where as the WD jus gives a 1 year warranty ...
Help -
If all things being equal with the WD & the Seagate, go for the 5 year warranty. For more insight, when purchasing look at the "buyers" reviews (if they post them) and see what they say, but try to be objective and look for posts that give a good review of both the pros and cons of the item. Some people tend to get a little emotional in their responses.
