    Hey sportsfans,

I have a Sony AR, which can hold to hard drives, and I use rather intensive music software (IE Native Instruments Kontakt n' stuff). My hard drive though, is almost brim full, and I want to get a new one so I can "expand the possibilities".

While I know that Seagate's 7200rpm 500gb is coming out soon, my patience is starting to run out as to when I can actually purchase the thing, so the question is should I wait for the 7200prm, or just get Samsung's Spinpoint M6 500gb (which is at 5400rpm)?

    Some other useful info-

    2Gb RAM.
    1.8Ghz dual core.
    Vista Home Premium.

    Free cookies also welcome.

I wouldn't be happy with 5400 rpm, but that's just me.

From what I've seen, the WD 500GB as the performance of my 7k200... Not too shabby for a 5400rpm hard drive...

My test results for the WD5000BEVT are here. Performance is a little behind the 320GB 7200rpm HDDs but one of the outstanding features is the low power requirement. It is much better than the Samsung 500GB.

Ugh, yeah, did some more research on the Samsung and it's a big, slow, power-hungry monster.

That Western Digital looks nice. Slower than a 7200, but more than just a few steps ahead of the other 5400's.

All the same, any idea which month Seagate's going to drop the 7200.4?

I'd say the earliest is Dec, but I wonder if you will even be able to purchase/receive it by January..
