    Hello,
i have two options laptops to get and i have to choose between these two, considering i dont need more than 240GB and money is not an issue which is more stable as i've been confused between thoughts:

240GB Solid State SSD OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III
    OR
512GB Solid State SSD 6GB/s SATA Crucial M4

    its for W520 Thinkpad

    Thank you

After reading all the reviews on Newegg I don't get the impression reliability on Sandforce drives has improved.

I'd stick with Crucial M4 or Intel 510.

According to Crucial's website, the first one contains just the drive itself. The second includes the drive and a data-transfer kit. This is also indicated in the pictures on Newegg.

If you don't need more than 240GB, why not get the 256GB M4? It's the same speeds as the 512 for way less. Great drive too.

Stay FAR away from Sandforce. They haven't even fixed Gen 1 issues (1200-series). Gen 2 was way worse, people still having Vertex 3's dying randomly.

Good point. And FYI, it would be much cheaper to buy that drive from Amazon. It's only $436 there versus $490 from Newegg. Also, Amazon will actually let you return the drive within 30 days if it doesn't work or you don't like it. Newegg's return policy on all SSDs is exchange only, no refunds.

the reason im comparing between these two because they are bundled with two laptops listed on ebay for sale, so my options are limited

I'm not in the states for returns or custom buying thinkpads, I need to look for fixed setup for a seller who setup one so close to my requirement to buy it

Go for the M4. Great SSD, best reliablity, not crooks that make it, not affected by compressed data like Vertex 3 are etc :)

If that's the case, buy the system equipped with the M4. Pull it from the machine, sell it on eBay for US$700+, buy a 256 GB M4, and pocket the difference. Win-win.

Then absolutely get the M4, it is a top-notch drive. Intel and Crucial have similar reliability figures, and OCZ is in the pits. Plus, Intel uses the same controller as the M4 in their 510, that should tell you something right there.
