I'll be using a TV Tuner in my laptop. Will a 7200RPM hard drive show a noticeable difference if I'm recording.

Afaik as long as you're not recording HDTV a 5400rpm will be more than fast enough.

Yeah, I was planning on recording though. Would a 5400 RPM drive result in dropped frames?

For 1080P without compression? You'd really have to know the requirements for that. I don't know!

Hmm.. I don't think any of the broadcasters currently use 1080p.. just up to 1080i.. Yeah I'm not completely sure how the capture process works yet; I just wanted to know if anyone knew if it'd be worth it to upgrade (it costs about $150 more).

You'd have to know in detail what drives you are talking about, because some 5400rpm drives reach better write speeds than some 7200rpm drives.

Search is down for some time dude :)

It might , if you`re doing more than just recording... so a 7200 rpm would be adviseable.

Buy a higher density drive to compensate for its 5400RPM spindle speed.
