So i got my friend a new laptop for his birthday tommrow. It came with a 500gb 5400 rpm speed hard drive well i was gonna put his old 320gb drive in it was 7200 rpm thought it would be faster for his gaming well the 5400 rpm drive scores 5.8 onwei! And the 7200 scores lower at 5.7 why is that? Yes i know windows exspeicance index and be flakey, but why should it show the 7200 lower? My 7200.rpm drive in my laptop scores 5.9

Yeah, ignore WEI.
If both HDD's are from the same manufacturer, the same capacity and the same generation; then the 7200 RPM model will always be faster than the 5400 RPM version.
What you're seeing is possibly different generations of HDD's with different capacities and of course the WEI variability thrown in for good measure.
In actual usage... is the 7200 RPM model demonstratably better though? -
