    hello

i recently bought the logitech z-5500 5.1 surround sound speakers and i was wondering would it make a real difference in the quality of the sound if i were to buy a sound card like Creative's sound blaster audigy 2 ZS? i dont have an onboard sound card but my notebook is a M1710 so i imagine whatevers in there is not that bad. thanks and if you have any suggestions for other cards let me know

onboard audio has gotten pretty good these days. if the sounds quality is acceptable to you, i think a better sound card would be a waste of money.

Depends if you have "golden ears".

You would need a 5.1 decoder (as in a 5.1 receiver) to drive a 5.1 speaker system. I guess your Z-5500 has a faux 2 channel surround mode?

You can search this forum for the Digital audio adapter to run your laptop to a receiver if you want that solution. You have only the PCI express slots, no Creative's Sound Blaster Card at this time.
