Just how big of a difference is a 6-cell and 9-cell notebook battery (while doing everything, such as photoshoping and movies, but not gaming)? On average, how long do they each last (in hours)?

Does the 9-cell's performance compensate for the extra weight and the sticking-out-the-back of your notebook?

    Many thanks.

Nine cells usually get you quite a bit more battery life, as far as I hear and read. The only issue is - do you want to spend the extra money, and more importantly, do you want to lug the extra weight of the extended battery (and bear with the potential eyesore of it sticking out of the back of the notebook?)

Yeah, I want to keep it as light as possible for travelling b/w classes, and I realli don't want the batt to stick out, so I went with the 6 cell ^-^

    Thanks.

The battery life will depend on many things: the capacity of the 6 cell and of the 9 cell (a cell is not a capacity, a cell HAS a capcity), which laptop it is, what screen it has, what os it runs, specs, what processes and services you have running, if different parts are in power-saving mode. And a 6-cell from one laptop may have more capacity than one from another. This is why there's no avarage batterylife for a x-cell battery. And if you are botheded byt the sticking out part and weight will depend on person till person and laptop till laptop.

if all is logical ,we can solve this with a little math :
normaly a 9 cell will last 1/2th time longer than your normal 6 cell.

we cant tell how long thy work because it depends on what notebook you have,
can tell you my original battery (asus S96J ) last for 2 hours

    9 cell.

    Batter life > weight.

That only works if the cells have in fact the same capacity. What you acutally measure battery capacity in is mAh (milliampère). You just take the difference between the two batteries and divide it by the smaller one (the 6-cell). multipli that value with how much battery-life you usually have and presto, that's how much more you're gonna get (more or less).
