I am working on a desktop machine which has an AMD Athlon 6400 2 Dual core 3.20ghz processor which is running at 51C degrees 1st CPU and 55C degrees 2nd CPU when it is doing minimal work to be exact copying stuff to hdd and chrome is open but idle.

I was wondering if this was normal. Any experiences from past that you can share with me or any experienced testers here would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

one more quick question about wprime benchmark test. I was running it on this same amd machine and it restarted the machine at 70C degrees. I was wondering if 70C CPU degree is normal for an amd machine to restart? I dont want the same problem occur when i am gaming because of the cpu. I am suspecting cpu problem issue basically thank you.

Yeah, that sounds like an AMD processor to me.

Game, do some work and heat up your space too (even though 51-55C isn't that hot for a cpu, it is still much warmer than Intel's idle at).

You can repaste it, clean out the dust, re-arrange the wiring/cables to give the airflow the best chance to move as fast as possible through the case and even change the fans (on both the case and the cpu too).

In the end, the processor will still heat up much more than anything current will.

For example, my Q9450 overclocked to 3.4GHz (2.66GHz nominal) idles at 43C with ThrottleStop running. This is a 28% overclock with 'idle states' on the cpu disabled w/TS and it is running as cool or cooler than at stock speeds. And at an ambient temp of 26C too.

My i7 2600K is running at 4.5GHz (3.4 nominal) and barely getting 33C with low/idle workloads in similar ambient temps.

The platform manners and so do the ambient temps too - what are your room tempertures?

Btw, this forum is for notebook users questions only (this thread will probably be closed soon).

    Hope that this helped.

Desktop questions are best suited for DTR. They'll be better suited to discuss your cooling solution, airflow levels, etc and how you might be able to cool that chip down.
