I find the 620QM to be much less powerful than the 820QM and yet it costs 30-50 dollars more on E-bay from multiple sellers. Why is this?

The i7 620m is a newer processor and may be subject to greater demand than the 820QM. The latter CPU also tends to suffer from compatibility limitations due to the greater thermal requirements, which may otherwise force throttling and prevent the hardware from achieving its full potential. Many new laptops have the hardware requirements to support the entire Arrandale gamut, from the "lowly" i3 to the "premium" i7, and as a result, there is a greater supply base from which to demand the newer product.
Therefore, the answer to your question is most likely a matter of supply and demand. It doesn't always seem intuitive, considering the 820QM may appear to be a superior product, but other factors need to be considered. Compatibility, the ratio of supply to demand, and novelty factor can greatly affect the perception of value, and this is just one case that supports this notion. -
I believe the main reason is that most of the i7-820QMs you're seeing on E-bay are in fact ES or QS.

cheese is right...ebay is full of ES processors, which are technically being illegally resold. I just did a search for 820qm and all the cpu results were ES versions.

and ES are very UNRELIABLE.

Beg your pardon guys for my ignorance but, what does mean ES?
Excellently Stolen? -
