    Hi all,

I was thinking about purchasing a P170HM from Malibal. I am basically down to the GPU at this point in terms of what I want. The 6990m is a great deal, but I prefer Nvidia as a company and the 580m is better. Is it worth the $300 or so?

Nope. An extra 10% performance in the best case scenario is not remotely worth $300. The 6990M gives the best bang for your buck.

The 580M is not really 10% better than 6990M.
They are both pretty much the same performance wise with MAYBE a 5% difference in raw power... but either way, such a difference is negligible.

It also depends on what you want to use your GPU for.
If it's purely for gaming, then go with 6990M. The Nvidia is NOT worth the price difference.
However, if you need Nvidia's CUDA technology for usage in professional software such as 3dsMax that can use the gpu for rendering, that might be the ONLY reason worth considering the Nvidia card (other than that, NO).

The Buy/Sell/Trade section here for one, but make certain to read the rules about posting there.

If you have a laptop that actually has the option of a 6990m like the clevo P170HM/P150HM or the M17x/M18x, then you can also contact your clevo reseller or Dell respectively and order one from them.

EDIT: Oh and i forgot, there is also MXM Upgrades.

The 580 m only becomes a better choice if you need nvidia specific features for non gaming needs, like cuda for example.
If you are purely gaming, then get the 6990

For any laptop that doesn't have the 6990m as an option, you'll have to order from mxm upgrades, ebay or NBR marketplace. Make sure your laptop can handle the card before too.
