Okay, so I am getting an Alienware M14x soon, and by default it comes with 6GB of RAM. I am trying to decide whether or not to fork over $75 more for the 8GB. I plan on using it for web-surfing, school work, and of course, since it's an Alienware, a ton of gaming. I'll be using it to play games like AC3 when it's out, Skyrim, ARMA 2: CO, Starcraft 2, Civilization V, stuff like that. So if anyone can help me decide below, that would be much appreciated. And please don't say don't buy Alienware as I've heard many times before.

$75 for 2Gb more of RAM? No.
It sounds like 6Gb will be plenty for your usage. -

A Metric Ton is a unit of measure
You can get 2GB of RAM for less than that anyway... you could probably find 8GB for less than that still, that upgrade charge is expensive for no reason; don't bother. -
$75 is more than most aftermarket 8GB kits, so no it is not worth it for 2GB of generic Samsung/Hynix RAM.

just an FYI...most 8 gig kits can be found for less than $40. Alienware is notorious for charging ridiculous amounts for ram and harddrive/SSD upgrades. I don't think you will need more than the 6gigs, but if you did, I would definitely do it yourself...it is easy to upgrade ram in the alienware...if you need help, post in the m14x forums...its about 5 mins work for a rookie

You can get 16GB (2x8) kit for 80 in US...

6GB vs. 8GB isn't going to make a difference in your case, I quite agree.
I have 8GB of RAM in my notebook and used it that way for a few months. Then I installed an SSD and unknowingly installed 32-bit Windows, effectively meaning I can only use half of that 8GB (need a 64-bit OS to see all 8GB). Didn't realize it. And I use Photoshop quite heavily and play some of the games you do. -
Agreed with everyone else here; $75 for an extra 2GB of RAM is a level of stupid on its own (for Alienware).
