    oh yeh is a 5400 laptop comparable to a 7200 desktop cause of the mb/mm thing

    i'm using 7200rpm Hitaich laptop HD, it is very fast, but take a little bit more power.

    I guess it probably depends entirely what you are doing, I'm running a machine with very similar specs with a 5400rpm drive, and have had no issues, everything loads VERY fast, I ripped video from my video camera without a single frame being dropped (and this was about an hours video, not a few seconds or minutes).

    Now if you are ripping HD video you MIGHT need the 7200rpm drive, but I'm honestly not sure, never ripped HD video (and the way video cameras are now going I'm waiting on them being hard drive/flash drive before getting an HD one).

    The 7200rpm drive will load windows and large programs a little faster, but the trade off other than price, is heat and power consumption. Resulting is lower battery life. If your serious about performance, go with the 7200rpm drive. Else you should be happy with the 5400rpm drive. OR, you can purchase both and send the 7200rpm drive to me to run more uses ..er tests on, :)
