7200rpm Notebook Hard Drives

Hey I have been looking at two Seagate 7200 rpm hard drives. Both are the same model but one is 250gb and the other is 200Gb.. They are both the same price...! Is there any chance the larger capicity model has slower acess times etc due to there being more memory to go through..?? As I would imagine for example that a 500gb one would be slower to use than the same on with 200gb...?

 

I guess the 250GB 7200RPM is the Seagate 7200.3, and the 200GB 7200RPM is the Seagate 7200.2....
If so, then the 250GB one is going to be hell of alot better than the 200GB one.

another vote for the 7K320, but if the money is tight, get the 250gb 7200rpm drive from seagate. It is remarkably cheap. It definitely has a great bang going with it.

Notice every system in my sig has a Hitachi drive in it. I choose them for good reason

Also there is a 320GB version of the Seagate 7200rpm for only $99.. The 160,200 and 250GB are all $79..

Will be 320GB be worth the extra money.. I will only be interested in extra speed as I dont need 320GB.

 

The 320gb Seagate I mentioned is "SEAGATE 320GB MOMENTUS 7200.3 NSG"..
What does NSG stand for does anyone know.. as the other smaller capacity drives dont have this..

 

The 160gb model will be pretty much identical in speed to the 320gb model.
The only difference is that the 160gb model has 1 platter while the 320gb model has 2 platters.
The 160gb drive will be quieter and cooler in operating temps than the 320gb drive cause there are less moving parts.

Go for the 160gb model, if you are looking for performance on more of a budget. It wil perform the same as the 320gb model, but have teh advantage of faster seek times.

And would the Hitachi be that much faster..? I heard the Seagate doesnt get as hot and uses less power (apparently uses same power etc as a 5400rpm HD).. Id hate to get the Hitachi and it ends up burning my lap..

You can buy the 160gb seagate model or the wd 160gb model if you do not want the Hitachi. Just make sure the drive is the latest generation 7200rpm model, like any of these:

Personally you should go with the 320gb from seagate from zipzoomfly, or the 250gb model from zipzoomfly, both models are exceptionally fast and very inexpensive.

Get the Seagate 7200.3 250GB. It's a great price and performs really well.

The 7200rpm last generation WD and Hitachi drives are also good, but a bit more expensive.

Good choice, the 250gb seagate drive is a very fast drive. Surprisingly it is actually a tad faster than the 160 or 320gb models. Plus for the money, you cant beat 250Gb at 7200rpm for $80.
