sorry if this is asked already, but i have a problem in particular.

My acer1410-8803 has su3500+gma4500MHD the gs45 express mobile chipset combination, it runs windows vista factory, i didnt do anything to the os yet. however, the cpu is constantly always in 60-100% used, but there are almost no programs or services running. playing a 320p video on youtube, or just playing any video lags so badly, very very horrible lag. and windows performs like crap!

Is this normal? i thought su3500 was supposed to be better than the atom, how come mine performs so much slower than my friend's n270 netbook. Would it help if i install another operating system, or is there something i should be concerned with.

can it play 720p or 1080p material, if i connect it via hdmi to my 1366x768 32" hdtv flawlessy? just wondering becuz its lagging right now and how to fix it etc etc

Su3500 is a single core ulv chip not much better than an atom. You may be able to play new hardware accelerated flash videos at 720p, but I wouldn't set high hopes for anything that requires high cpu usage. Its abnormal for vista to idle at 60 percent utilization of a single core. Check task manager and report back which process is eating up the cpu. It could be an el-cheapo virus scanner such as zone alarm installed by the manufacturer.

SU3500 is more than twice as fast as the Atom N270. It should fly through Vista.

1080p videos are possible with low CPU usage. Make sure DXVA is enabled. Try using MPC-HC.

Like huai said, Check task manager and report back which process is eating up the cpu.

Look at your network monitoring on task manager, if it's higher than a few percent when no browsers and all other internet using programs are closed then you may be part of a botnet. That would be bad, very bad.

    whats a botnet...

the weird thing is that i bought it from acer authroized retail, and i didnt do anything to the operating system, didnt install anything. it is constantly freezing, lag spikes, IE (no firefox yet, becuz i dunno if this all is normal, and should report this before doing anything to the OS) takes 5 minutes to start. cpu always 60% with almost no apps running. there is mcafee but when i see the service, its not really taking up much. why is the cpu always above 60% when merely NOTHING is running? i can listen to music but any video playing will LAG like HELL! IT LAGS like CRYSIS IS RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND ON MAX SETTINGS! IM NOT EXAGERATING i wonder if i got a defect su4500, or anything worse. Has anybody else experienced ths with their new acer netbook?

I'll say it again: press Ctrl-alt-del, taskmanager and check what process is eating your CPU.

Also consider removing McAfee, it's a resource hog.

I'll say it again too: THERE ARE MERELY NO PROGRAMS RUNNING! i see no programs that are using the cpu too much only taskmsg jumps up and down from 0 to 90

Not programs, processes. Programs are on the first tab, processes on the second. A normal Windows 7 installation will have about (+-) 50 processes running. Click on CPU utilization to have them listed in order.

It has to be a process that's eating up your CPU. You can't have high CPU utilization without.

And I would really remove McAfee.

A botnet is basically a giant supercomputer... of sorts. They send most of the spam on the internet and can be used for phishing purposes, they can collect data on you and everything you do on on your computer and even (according to predictions) knock entire countries off the net.

You can have a better idea of what processes are running if you look at the admin tast manager, it shows up most of the syste, prcesses too. Thankfully if you reinstall windows then asside from getting rid of the crapware, if you were part of a botnet then you won't be anymore :)
