Okay, so I looked into this pairing of GPUs and, from what I can see, the 850M is SLOWER in every real gaming session than the 760M. Yet, as far as benches go, the 850M is supposedly the faster card? o.o
Noteboockcheck shows that most games do better with the 760M than the 850M. Why?

That's a good question. The 850M uses new Maxwell cores which might be better optimized than the 760M Kepler cores. Notebookcheck reports that the 850M actually can tie/beat the 765M at times which is pretty impressive. Plus the 850M probably runs cooler and has more OC room.
A lot of notebookcheck's results show the 850M being faster. -

The 850M with DDR3 should beat the 760M whichever way.. I'm surprised with the benchmarks...

Sure 760M is faster than 850M - it has more pipelines, so esp. when DDR5 vs DDR3 versions compared - prerfomance will be better.
Nevermind the architecture name - these are basically the same, only higher clocks keep 850M close, just overclock 760M to the same clocks and the difference will become more obvious. -

the 760 is more cores. the fact it's an 8 50 and has fewer cores MAY be why.

the 850m has less cores, but they are not only shrinked, they also have a new architecture and better memory management.
The reason that some forums say the 850m is faster, is maybe because of the thermal design, the 760m gets easily too hot and will trottle down, while the 850m can run at full power because it gets less hot.
