Hello everyone,
I had to ask because I want to get a Dell e1705 but none of them come with the nVidia 7800 go video cards anymore. All I see on the market are the 7800 GTX go, so if I purchased one, could I replace ATI x1400?
If not, does anyone know where I can purchase a 7800 video card?
Thanks,
korro

They're still sold on eBay with 7800s in them.
There's also a deal on the XPS M170 right now for it to be like $1350 with the 7800 GTX, if a gaming machine is what you're looking for. -
Thanks for the reply Reize, I need a laptop that does it all because I will be replacing my desktop and doing all of my graphic work and software development on this machine as well as hardcore gaming (I figured if I could cover all the bases with one machine that would be best
)
Is it possible to do these things smoothly with the XPS M170 or is it purely a gaming machine?
Thanks again! -
No problem, and, yes, as far as I know.
-
Excellent, then I might have to keep my eyes open for the XPS. It's just a little to flashy for my liking but it's a minor concern. Thanks again for your help!

You can turn off or lower the LED lights if that's what you meant.
-
Lol, I heard about that, but it's more of the brushed metal sequence on the the top cover, the Inspiron is just more of the style that I like, not too plain but not attention grabbing. I'm pretty fussy which is why everything has to be perfect in configuration on this laptop haha.
-
It's perfectly flat if that's what your worried about.. Or if it's just the fact that it's brushed metal, you can paint over it..
-
I can live with the brushed metal better than any paint job that I could muster lol. It would be U-G-L-Y.

I would advise you to get the m170. You could possibly get the 7800go from ebay, but you have to do some major modding for the gtx to fit. I would do that....

Hey thanks for the replies guys, see that's my dilemma now.
If you were to choose between these two systems, based on my needs, which would you get?
Package A) 7800 + Dual Core Processors
Package B) 7800 GTX + Pentium M
I really had my heart set on getting the Dual Core, but now I really don't know which one to choose cause the GTX sounds so **** good over the regular 7800 go. -
I am exactly in the same dilemma now. I want to do my graphics / game development as well as play games on my laptop. Currently, most of the games as single threaded, Pentium M may not be a bad choice as this moment.
But as game engines supporting multiple platforms are ported to support next gen consoles (xbox 360, ps3), the games engines have to be multi-threaded because of multiple core nature of next gen consoles. So, as games start using these game engines, you can expect PC games to take advantage of the multiple cores in very near future. Some of the new games like Elder Scrolls 4 : Oblivion are already multi-threaded and take advantage of the multiple cores in PCs. So, to be able to scale up to the near future games, I prefer the dual core. I am very surprised and disappointed that XPS being their top of the line product, DELL does not have the dual core cpus on them.
Atleast the Turion X2s are about to be released next month and MSI is expected to have a laptop with Turion X2 with 7800GTX most probably in May. I am so tempted to wait until May so that I can have both the dual core as well as 7800GTX (or even possible 7900GTX) and it is 64bit as well. If you can wait for a month, it is worth the wait.
Are there any other brands that carry core duo with 7800GTX ? -
hey arunvb, i remember reading one of your posts in the other threads for suggestions of which notebook would be best suited for your needs and I said to myself, "this guy has the exact same wants as I do" haha.
I found out from these boards that the Sager notebooks also have the 7800GTX. Thanks for notifying me of the Turion X2s, that is an intriguing prospect to look at but I wonder how the prices will fare right when they come out. I can probably wait for another month, I've already been searching since late JanuaryEspecially if it is equipped with the GTX, it is definitely worth the consideration.
best of luck! let me know how the search goes... -
Hopefully the new XPS will come out soon. It will have the 7900GTX 512mb ram.
7800 GTX go compatibility with Dell e1705?
