Which is better 7970m crossfire or a single 970m?

Took my laptop in for repairs as one of my 7970m cards was faulty.

Repair team state that they are having trouble getting the 7970m's in stock so they will give me a free upgrade to a single 970m.

A quick look on notebook check shows that the 970m is a bit weaker setup.. do you guys think it is a good deal?

    Many thanks for your help

@Lukenz88 I would agree to such a trade, or maybe make a counteroffer to add some money and get 980m - to avoid dual-gpu mess. However, in this scenario I'm biased towards reliability.

The 970m will be a bit weaker in terms of performance but it will only consume around half the power of two 7970s. The 980m would be a better of course :D

I think it would consume 1/3 power of cfx 7970m. Get the 970m and overclock it - it will be as fast as cfx 7970m in games support of multigpu and faster in other games. Still crossfire isnt good - i have problems with hd7990, with drivers newer than 15.7.1

Poor trade. 980M single would be more equitable.

Agreed... The 970M would be a fair replacement for a 7970M or actually a good one but for 7970M CF, the 980M is a fair replacement...

Thanks for your help, I think I will see if I can convince them that the 980m would be the fair replacement

Do guys think it would make much difference if the the 970m was the 3gb or the 6gb? I have heard the 6gb only makes a difference in sli set ups

Hey if anyone is interested, I ended up getting the 8gb 980m for an extra $200 which is a pretty sweet deal I think, thanks for the help!
