How is this accomplished with only 2 slots? Are there 4 GB sticks out there?
Or do those laptops have > 2 RAM slots?

2X4gb sticks
-
Oh , those exist?
Would I need a BIOS update or something to accept that? On my fact sheet mine says up to 4 GB RAM. -
HERE is a 8GB Kit (2x4GB).

Looks like desktop RAM to me ... It's kinda long.
And would I need any BIOS/software updates to recognize > 4 GB?
Apart from 64-bit of course. -
No, just because there is 2x4GB ram out there it doesn't mean that your notebook can handle that, the fact is that your notebook only supports 4GB.
And yes he has linked to desktop-ram but there is 2x4GB SO-DIMM's too. -
Whoops, sorry. That was a mistake.
Here is 2x4GB Notebook Memory.
-
they're very expensive though, and your bios has to support it.
just FYI, 8gb isnt the maximum, the dell precision m6400 supports 16gb -
Yeah, its rediculously expensive and not worth it at all.

8GB for $380, not a bad price. -
Better!
But personally, its still to much money.
-
depends what you're doing. if you're multitasking while running multiple VM's its well worth it.
i know a guy who has to travel regionally, and have a machine that can do basically what his desktop does. he's quite happy with the m6400 -
thats why its targeted towards the enterprise market, its not exactly a consumer machine
-
Yes, i guess for that if can be useful.
Oh, yeah. ok.
-
Correct, if its mainly used for web browsing, music, video then theres not much point.
-
you answered your own question
-
not sure what you're referring to
-
Depends entirely on the application of the system.
