    Hi,
Does anyone how much help does the 8-series Nvidia cards help in playing High Definition files? I tested a 720p file on my laptop with 8600m gt while observing the temperature of CPU & GPU and the CPU usage. To my surprise the CPU had a very high usage between 30 to 45%, I though the Nvidia card was suppose to help unload some of the processing but looks like the card was not function; I reach the conclusion based on high CPU usage and the fact that the GPU temperature doesn't really move up, as in not "working" to decode the file.

Can someone answer how much benefit in terms of playing high definition file does the card support?

It depends on the codec used to play the video. I'm not sure on the exact details, but I believe only specific players will benefit from the GPU. (That said, HD movies do require insane amounts of processing, so you'll *always* see significant CPU usage, no matter how much is offloaded. Of course it'll be higher when the CPU does everything, but it'll always require a good chunk of CPU.)

Are you sure the player application supports XvMC?
