Hi, I just have a quick question, do you think that an 80 GB hard drive is large enough for college. I was looking at several systems and the larger hard disk options push the price over what I was hoping to pay.(under 950 including tax and shipping) I'm in no real rush to buy, but I will probably make the move around November/early December.

    So...Any Thoughts

    Thanks :)

well depending on what you do with your notebook a size of harddrive varries. I am also a college student and for my i use my notebook for alot of different things.

    Internet surfing
    Office work
    Gaming
    Videos
    Audio and Visual Editing

so for me i got an 120 GB hard drive, unlike my gf who just uses it for internet, msn, and office, she uses an 80 gb hard drive and has no real complaints

In Canada rite now *thats where i live* you can actualy get a decent notebook with a 120 gb hard drive for 900 with taxes and everything i dont know about the states but its reasonable you can get alittle more power for what your spending =)

80GB is a LOT of data. I think the problem you'll run into is music and video. If you can keep that in check 80GB will be fine.

My last computer had an 80GB drive. I had XP, The entire Office 2003 suite (all programs and options installed), 6GB of music, plus hundreds of programs, VMWare, etc. I still had room for 3 or 4 DVD's and an extra 6 or 7GB to play with.

Yup you can do some stuff to save space like lower the amount of space used by system restore and squeeze out some more gigs, especially if your using vista that can save more than 20 gigs of space. 80 gigs is fine but you sure sometimes upgrading to 120 gigs is a matter of 10-15 bucks. Just make sure you know your options before you buy.

I think hard drive size is irrelevant, I try to keep the drive my OS is on fast not necessarily large. You can always get a USB hard drive like this to add on

they are interesting to have because you can just pick them up and go if you wanted to give a friend some music, video or word documents
