if my PC has a CPU with a 800 FSB, are there 800 Mhz. Notebook RAM Available. How Much? Is it really worth it?
-
Yes, there are 800mhz lapop ram ram(PC2-6400 DDR2-800 200-pin sodimm). But Santa Rosa laptops like your DV9500t can not fully use it. If you put DDR2-800 in your laptop it will downclock to 667mhz so in the end its not really worth it.
The hot ram deals thread list some deals/prices for DDR2-800. -
how about the dv9700t? why do they offer the 800FSB CPU if you cant even use it??? How can you get 800Mhz. then? Ive been thinking about doing this also.
-
Its a limitation of the Chipset. The Chipset( Intel Mobile 965) in Santa Rosa Lapops supports up to 4GB at 667mhz even though the processors has a FSB of 800mhz.
DDR2-800 is currently supported by desktop chipsets(sager NP9261/2) and I believe some AMD laptops. -
wow.. I can't help but say that this 800mhz question comes up every single day.
anyway to some it up..
800mhz RAM + Santa Rosa = 667 mhz RAM -
So, is there something thats coming soon... thats not SantaRosa? that will allow 800Mhz. in a laptop?
-
Apparently Monteviena...next centrino platform coming Q2 2008 will have support for DDR3 800mhz ram
-
ok, thanks for the info
-
Oh and by the way its DDR3 because it produces less heat
-
Yes and lately I have been thinking about the comments of "buy PC6400 you can always use later on a different notebook when they come out." Looks like not, at least for Intel.
-
I know. Comes up even more than once in a single day..!
Get it in your heads people: SANTA ROSA DOES NOT SUPPORT 800 MHz RAM!!! Don't confuse RAM bandwidth with Processor FSB!!!
