is their a way to run 800mhz ram in one of the new santa rosa processors. right now i know it will down clock the ram to 667mhz but in the future will their be updates to let it run the full 800mhz with these chipsets?

The Santa Rosa chipset is limited to 667MHz DDR2 RAM and an 800MHz FSB. My hunch is that 800MHz RAM could be supported with a BIOS/microcode update...but it probably will not happen. Maybe the next chipset (Santa Rosa's next gen) will though...

Intel said point blank that Montevina will support 800 mhz RAM. So I doubt that they would try to put it into Santa Rosa. Especially considering that they're releasing new platforms every year.

If it is a bios issue, perhaps it could be hacked?

Btw, your usage of the term "microcode" is incorrect. I think you might mean "firmware"?

ok i guess ill just get the 667mhz ram and save a few bucks, since it doesnt seem likely they will update it to work.
