Will a 120GB 5400 RPM hard drive be faster than a 80GB 5400 RPM hard drive?

Other factors come into play .. a) what is the physical size of the platter? (2.5" or 3.5") ... b) what size cache does each have?
If all are equal, then yes the 120GB would be faster than the 80GB, but would be it be fast enough for you to notice? that would come down to what applications you may be running ... large databases are what benefit mostly from marginally faster drives. -

Check Tom's hardware for benchmarks on hard drives.
