Well, I finally figured out why my video card has been churning out crazy temperatures, and that's because it's running at max speed. Genius.

I was trying to use rivatuner to underclock it and came across a performance 3D profile which had it at 400/600mhz, I checked GPUZ and that's what my card was running it...

    Here is my question:

Is there anyway to disable high performance mode? I don't game or anything so I am not concerned about that....

I would love it to be on standard 2D or low-performance 3D instead of full out 3D mode....

    Thanks.

in windows Vista you can select the power-profile of your videocard in the in-built Windows Vista power-settings. I do not have an english Vista, but I suppose it would be something similar to this:

left-click on the powercord/battery-indicator on the lower-right side of the screen -> more aternatives -> change powersettings of current profile -> change advanced power setitngs -> PCI Express -> change to max power saving when in ac and dc mode...

That should do it (I think)... Though it will still go into high-speed 3d mode when required, it will throttle down to low-power mode much more frequent. Enjoy!

I actually already had that ticked....

I did figure it out though... well another solution at least.

I wasn't being allowed to change the frequencies, but I then remembered reading somewhere on laptopvideo2go about people complaining about various builds not allowing overclocking (thus no underclocking either), so I installed a build I had on my hard drive that I had downloaded earlier, and I was now allowed to overclock..... at that point I underclocked the heck out of it... lol. It was at 400/600, I have it now at 200/300.

I guess the GPU puts itself on max 3d performance mode when it's on an external display..... anyway.... I just dropped about 7C... am a happy camper!

I don't game so it's not an issue.. video card seems to be doing just fine at these speeds pumpin on my 22incher... :D
