I just placed an order on a dv6500t with the 128mb 8400m GS. I also picked up the T7500 processor... is this CPU overkill combined with a 8400m GS machine?

I'll be using the notebook with engineering 3D cad SW, games (CS, FlightSim, rFactor), surfing, vids, etc. I may overclock the GPU. It would just save me some $ if I downgraded CPU.

    Thanks!

A faster CPU will ALWAYS make games run slightly better, no matter what graphics card you're using.

But if you're just looking at gaming, a CPU upgrade isn't worth the money.

It will help with CAD though.

The CPU is overkill if you are looking at a strict "how low can you go" before your CPU becomes a bottleneck in games. IMO, the 7250 is just as good of a CPU for less money.

Thinking of doing the same thing (dv6500 - T7500 w/8400GS). The T7500 is only $50 more than the T7250 and after the 30% discount it's actually only $35 plus tax... and not only will you have a faster processor but also a larger cache (4mb vs. 2mb)... imho, it's a cheap upgrade.

It's definately worth it to improve performance for every day use.
