Is it possible to upgrade the cpu on the 8510W?

I consistently find my self at 100% cpu usage.

I currently have 8Gb of Ram and 500Gb Crucial M4 SSD,

I really don't want to buy a new unit as its likely to be major money just as this was at new.

    Thanks

    Martyn

It can take the Quads if the bigger heatsink is inside.

Exactly what programs are you trying to run?

They must be massively CPU intensive to make the machine run at 100%.

It seems likely you've got a software problem to track down. If you haven't reinstalled the OS (Vista?) recently, now might be a good time.

    Agreed 10001%.

I've got a 14" ThinkPad T61p with similar configuration (T7800/4GB/256GB Micron C400/W 7 32 Pro) and have yet to see it shoot up to 100% CPU usage unless I'm stress-testing it for fun...

    Thanks for all the replies.

    I run windows 7 Ultimate 64 .

    Yesterday my main usage was:

    AutoCad 2012
    Adobe Dreamweaver
    Fireworks
    X Pro

Firefox & Thunderbird are always open
I also run Vmware running OS 10.1

Plus a few electrical / design based programs - less heavy usage

I have no issue re-installing windows but its so time consuming to re-install all the software afterwards I could kiss goodbye to 3 days if I start down that path!.

    Cheers

    Martyn

Well if you have a software problem changing the CPU is unlikely to make much difference.

If you don't want to reinstall the OS yet, I'd suggest shutting down/not starting your programs and then starting them up one by one and in various combinations to see when the CPU usage rises. If one or two programs cause the problem then you could try reinstalling those ones. If you can narrow down the occasions that CPU load increases you can work out what's causing it.

Just a thought; did you install Windows on your SSD or clone it from a HDD? I've never trusted HDD to SSD cloning.
