Ok so i have to upgrade my laptops gpu and maybe cpu cuz the famous
8600m gt fried.Im thinking of getting a 9600m gt or 3670hd, maybe a better ati card if possible.![]()
Now i have the acer 5920g i wanna know if the 9600m gt is better then the ati card, and how much better.
Can i go with the ATI hd 4XXXX series cards?I know that my mobo only supports graphic card up to 512mb, the 9600m gt says its 1gb but on the
gpu-z it shows 512mb(its from the sellers page on ebay but i can clear that up with him no biggy).
Does anyone know wat the best cpu is for that mobo?

The Acer 5920G does have an upgradeable graphics card, but I thought it could only be upgraded from the 8600GT GDDR2 to the 8600GT GDDR3 card.
The 9600mGT will most likely work, but I highly doubt any ATi graphics cards will work in your system.
You may want to email the guys at "mxm-upgrade" to see if they know if your system will support the 9600mGT and or the ATi cards.
Your system uses socket P santa rosa prcoessors, so you can upgrade up to the T9300/T9500 processors. I would recommend staying away from the core 2 extreme X9000 because it has a higher TDP, meaning it gets hotter, kills battery life and it is super expensive. The best bang for the buck chips now are probably the T7700/T9300

Can you even upgrade your GPU? Even if you can, I doubt you will be able to upgrade much since thermal limitations would constrict you to only mainstream cards. How much improvement will you see? That depends on if you have 8600M GT DDR2 or GDDR3. ATI's 4 series isn't out yet. Again, even if it's physically possible to upgrade to ATI, Acer might have driver issues. What CPU so you have?

K-tron yes you can upgrade to ati card there is already someone on the thread who went from 8600m gt to ati 3650 hd.Yea i wouldnt go that far
the acer doesnt really have all that good cooling.Plus im getting an flextronics w840,dont know from who yet(aw,ocz, dark smiley,kn).
+I only want to fix this so i can give it to my lil bro.
Sgogeta4 yes you the 9 series cards run alot cooler than the 8 series,
Also my 8600 gt would reach 95c before it underclocked. -

I dont think so everybody says the 9600m gt runs cooler then the 8600m gt

Outctrl,
I have been doing some searching on the forums and I just cant find it.
I know sometime between 2 and 6 months ago a member joined nbr and was trying to sell about 15 MXM 8600mGt's which work in the Acer 5920 you have. I cannot remember his username, but they were pretty cheap, I would try looking in the notebook buy and sell section. I know he posted them their.
His prices were very cheap compared to retail, so I suggest looking for the cards and seeing if he has any left, it would probably save you a $100 or so.

Thanks i'll go have a look, but the thing is that i dont want another 8600m gt
I've seen a # of them go bad.I didnt think of looking in the notebook buy and sell section i'll go maybe i'll find something of use.
Thanks -
If you dont want another 8600mGt, than your best bet in findng a 9600mGT is on ebay or through mxm-ipgrade.
I believe the seller only had the GDDR2 and GDDR3 8600's and the 8400mGS.

I didnt find anything in here but i did find 9600m gt and 8600m gt at ebay the 8600m is 1/3 of the price though.
I dont know i'll see what ppl have to say about them i know that ati is mostly depended on the cpu i think and since i have a t7300 it might not work as good as the nvidia.
Even though the c2d's have the power, im no big hurry. -
I am selling a 8600m gt 512MB($250 CAD) and a 8600m GS 256MB($125CAD) if there is anyone interested.
buyer must pay for shipping
