ares6, if you want to keep it, probably GT240M MXM II would be the best. Had one in my 5930G for couple of years, very nice card, roughly 50% faster than 9600M GT. I would advice getting a newer machine, however - especially if you play games.

Yeah, but to install that into an Acer 5930G for example would probably increase the heat output by a lot (when compared to 9600M GT which is at 23W).

Out of curiosity though... what kind of increase in performance over 9600m GT is there?

The Toshiba HD4650 doesn't has vBIOS chip. It either has to be soldered and flashed (or better yet, the other way around using programmer), or you have to integrate the vBIOS in the system BIOS, using @valuxin 's guide.

ares6, GT240M MXM2 shouldn't cause any problems, and it's a great card, but more expensive. It might require minor driver modification, it's very simple and I (or someone else) can make it for you.

ares6, GT240M MXM2 were produced by ASUS alone. When installing on Acer machine, Nvidia driver looks for Acer cards only, ignoring ASUS. Driver mod adds the particular ASUS card to Acer list, and voila drivers recognize it and install successfully.

Yeah, I remember I had to install a modified Nvidia driver to accomodate my 240M...
But, that's not the only problem.
The 240M might be suffering from a faulty video RAM (or I simply might have gotten a bad batch). In essence, what happened on my 5930G, if the 240M was under heavy load for a slightly longer period of time, or even during just regular tasks performing in Windows for very long periods, it would freeze up the whole system, produce a constant screeching sound and result in a black screen on a seemingly random basis.
There was no overheating of the GPU (I checked), so it was unlikely that my fitting the gpu into the system was at fault.
A cold system shut down and restart was the only thing that would restore the system to operable state.
I tried lowering the VRAM speed somewhat and it seemed to help at first, but then progressively the freezing issue persisted despite the changes - and I felt it was pointless to slow down the card for the purpose of stability when the whole reason I got it was because it was 50% faster than 9600m GT while consuming same amount of power.

The only game that GPU was able to play reliably was Star Trek Birth of the Federation (with mods)... and that's a game from the 90-ies.

While researching the problems I experienced online, some people mentioned that the desktop version of that gpu had a faulty VRAM... and that owners of mobile versions suffered from similar problems.

Long story short, I took it out of my laptop and put back the original 9600m GT back inside (which works fine).

I would be very careful about getting 240M MXM II.
My experience wasn't an isolated one, seeing how even Starlight5 mentioned something similar about the same instability.

ares6, yeah, that's the card. Once it arrives and you install it, write its' hardware IDs from Windows device manager here, and we'll help you with driver mod.
