The R3 DOES support up to 32GB at 4x8GB sticks...Where can you get the 8GB sticks? I have not seen them ANYWHERE! 32GB is excessive but hey, maybe I want to run an entire corporate office in a VM![]()

I can't find them anywhere either. If you do happen to find them, they're probably going to be an arm and a leg like the 4GB DIMMs were awhile back. 16GB is nothing to laugh at though!

Definately...I just like to max out the capability with my machines, when it makes sense. My desktop is still a Core2Quad w/ DDR2 memory. It has 8GB of memory but 16GB is WAAAAAAAAY to expensive since I waited too long. 4x4GB sticks are quite expensve these days from what I saw.

im only seeing 240 pin desktop memory thats 8GB on 1 stick

Newegg has got 8GB kits for around $80. 16GB would be around $160. $500 from Dell/Alienware. The choice is obvious. -
Noone has 16GB kits (2x8GB sticks) or even 1x8GB stick...

Don't think Dell even has any yet, or at least stockpiled enough to start putting them in the R3 by default. Don't think it was that long ago that the RAM manufacturers were just starting to talk about actually putting 8GB SODIMMs in for production at all, or at least at a commercial rate. Should be a few months before they really hit the market, and when they do, they'll be expensive as heck for a while.
Don't see the point in 32GB in a machine that isn't for some kind of industrial rendering or running 3 or 4+ VMs in anyways,.. We haven't hit really using 6-8GB in gaming yet.
I guess you could box 2 or 3 whole groups of characters on an MMO or something,. -
You can get 8GB SoDIMMS with the precision line.
4*8GB will set you back ~$8000 -
8 GB SODIMMs are still only available from OEMs, and with the markup, they currently run at over $2000 per stick. You can check the Dell Business section under the M6500 memory options, or the HP Business section under the 8740w memory options ($8669 upgrade for the M6500 to 32 GB, $8675 upgrade to 32 GB for the HP). So basically, if you want a 8 GB SODIMM, you'll have to call the HP or Dell Business sections.

at those prices i feel like you'd be better off getting a desktop or just buy another r3 and fill them both with 8x4gb sticks (probably varied ways to connect them too so you can do file xfers between laptops/vm's - more cpu power if you have 2x laptops too)!

what kind of application asking for such amount of RAM on laptop ?
Like the above post either get a desktop/server or an SSD then use the page file.
