It's been confirmed by people that XPS M1530 supports up to 6GB of RAM with the latest BIOS update.
So why not to get one 4GB and one 2GB stick?![]()

pj11m brought this thread back from the grave; it has been more than half a year since the last post.
Anyway, for those doing media-related work, the jump from 4 GB to 8 GB is worth it, and especially if you can get your employers to pick up that tab. -
I do 3D design visualisation for a living. So often when I'm on the go there is a need to do on-the-fly renderings for clients or for spontaneous design ideas. Ergo, the more memory the merrier.
I just recieved a pair of 4GB sticks for xmas that I plan to throw into my 1530. It's going to scream. -
I chose this noob username when I used to think RAM was = speed

Lol ...
I use an Acer 5930G and would LOVE to be able to put 8GB inside of it (provided that Acer writes a BIOS to support that amount of RAM in the future) to use with Vista 64bit when I'm working in 3D Studio Max myself.
Applications involved with 3d design visualization (such as Max) can eat up large quantities of RAM, especially if you have a mesh with high-res textures that needs to be rendered on the go or a more complex scenery. -
You can try a 4GB module. The 5930G's chipset should have no problem recognizing 8GB. I tried a 4GB module in my notebook, and the BIOS recognized it, and my Acer is 2 generations older than yours.
8GB for me? Dell xps 1530 owner
