I just bought a Gateway 7805u and it comes with the 9 cell battery. It is a desktop replacement and rarley ever gets taken off ac Power. The battery is still in its bag and my question is should I cycle the power (fully charge then discharge) the battery or just keep it in the bag until I NEED to cycle. I guess im wondering if it is bad to keep it in the bag from Gateway never charged for a period of time (months). I know that when I finally DO cycle power on the new battery that I should charge fully and discharge fully several times to give it its memeory then charge it to 40% and store it in the fridge. Correct?

Just put the battery in the fridge. If you have vacuum plastic bag, put it in there and vacuum the air out to prevent condensation. You don't have to worry about recharge and discharge cycles for now. Li-ion batteries doesn't have memory effects.
