Hey I'm stuck between choosing the 9-Cell or the 6-Cell battery...

Is the extra length sticking really worth it?

Im planing on buying the Zepto Nox so its the battery for that.

for battery life yes... as long as the price difference isn't too big. ;)

The price is worth it, so get it if the length sticking out doesnt bother you.

It depends. If you travel, the extra time may be worth it. However, it will weigh more. Your other option is to get 2 6 cells. But weight will still be an issue.

I had a 9 cell and a 6 cell battery on my notebook. The 6 cell is now dead. The 9 cell is near death, as is my notebook.

I love my 9-Cell. I got it for free though, I take it for granted.

Actually I have been wondering about this...
Does a 9-cell lithium-ion battery ever die, like do you have to eventually replace it? I thought that they were rechargeable.

A 9 Cell battery would eventually degrade in the same way a 6-cell does.

I strongly recommend a 9 Cell battery. If you are going to be mobile the additional battery power is certainly worth it!!

I only would buy a laptop with a 9 cell battery or greater. That's how much I love my 9 cell battery. :)

how long does it usually take for a battery to degrade to the point that the life becomes noticeably shorter?

for me it was about 1 1/2 years of constant use, although this will increase, if you remove the battery, whilst your laptop is plugged in.

Remove the battery when not in use? I've heard that before, but have also read to only remove battery when not in use for 2 weeks or more. Please explain why?

It is good for a battery to charge up back to capacity, but leaving the battery in the laptop while it is charging for extended periods of time after the battery is fully charged is bad because it actually causes the battery to wear down due to the excess charges thats flowing back and forth.

Personally I think this is not true at all, though it does matter to others. There was someone who is a celebrity, I think Tom Hanks (what does he know about computers) who said for his iPod, the best way to keep long battery life is to charge it charge it to 95%, never full and charge it when it drains to about 25% or less, but only up to 95%.

I've left my computer in the AC all the time and through out the year there hasn't been any decrease in battery life.

get the 9 cell, except as said it is larger... But on the m1530, it actually raises the back of the laptop, giving it better airflow, cooling, etc. But it doesn't fit in the cloth type carrying cases, like dell supplies, but i use a regular case anyway.

Not much---down to about 40% is cool. They don't like complete discharges. Remove if gone for a few weeks.

You never know...Tom Hanks could be on this forum right now. He could be a Mod

Get the 9 cell. They usually only stick out like an inch or so. Hardly noticeable and worth the extra battery time

But you should let the battery drain out a few times a month to help lengthen its life

    ^^^^ WRONG!!!!-- Sorry my friend..........

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.

I said nothing about full 100% discharge so please calm down and mentioned nothing about memory of the battery. I pretty much was refering to your partial discharge

    Sorry my friend...

I asked because a Panasonic tech recently told me the same thing, that is, to remove the battery if you're using the A/C adapter for an extended period. He clarified his point saying that keeping a continuous charge on the battery isn't good for its longevity. That was the first I heard of this recommendation, so there must be some truth to it (I suppose).
