    Hey,

So I overclocked through bios a while back my 9600m gt to a 9700m gt clock wise. I wanted to change the ID to that of a 9700m GT to have it appear under windows as that. is that gonna be problematic, or does the card/laptop sees it just as a name change not risking much.

You could just force install drivers for a 9700m gt. I did it on an 8400m gs i force installed 8600m gs drivers for fun.

I don't think you can do that. Isn't the ID on the card and Windows, or whatever program, just reads it and displays it?

The ID is either hardcoded into the GPU or soft-encoded into the BIOS of the GPU. Not really easy to mess with.

Yes, this is not something that a simple driver install can change.

    Why would you do this?
The only reason I can see is if your selling it, and that would be an act of fraud

I reapeat, I overclocked my gt 9600m GT 'THROUGHT BIOS' using NvBitor. there is the option to change the ID of the card on NvBitor to anything, but I dont want to try that without making sure it has been done before without FAILING.

    zomg KTRON lol.
Ya, right, fraud, GG. I said why I wanted to do it, for cosmetics, i like having a 9700m gt and that being shown in vista it self. DO i ask you why you spend 10k on a laptop? dont go calling me a criminal, thank you very much. I love my laptop very much and have no intention of selling it anyway.

EDIT: Anyhows, I tryed it, when flashing throught nvflash i got a message telling me id was not the one found on original bios, did not dare to overwrite it as is, so pressed 'y' to override.

I guess ill leave it as it is, dont want to take risks, cheers for your help peeps.

I never knew you could do all that to your system... Good luck with your attempt.
