Hello all,
I have just bought on Ebay an AOPEN Mini PC MP965DR. I know it is not a laptop but this forum will now the answer I am sure.
I was buying a cheap Core Duo when reading around I found that Santa Rosa is different and will not accept older CPUs in the same way as the older 945GM cpus are not pin compatible with Santa Rosa. At the beginning I thought it was a joke than I noticed a series of new cpus (pentium mobile dual core replacing the coreduo) on the intel website have a package type Micro-FC PGA instead of Micro-FC BGA and there are all new versions of other Cpus like the T5500.
Please let me know what I need to buy.
Thank you in advance for your help and sorry if it sounds silly!

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Most current Intel mobile chips come in both flavors, it isn't just the Pentium Dual-Cores. You want a Socket P FCPGA. The FCBGA chips come with ball-grid arrays and meant to be soldered on motherboards used in ultraportables and embedded systems/devices.
EDIT: You can pretty much use any of these processors:
Core 2 Duo T5250 1500 2048 667
Core 2 Duo T5450 1667 2048 667
Core 2 Duo T5550 1833 2048 667
Core 2 Duo T5750 2000 2048 667
Core 2 Duo T5850 2133 2048 667
Core 2 Duo T5270 1400 2048 800
Core 2 Duo T5470 1600 2048 800
Core 2 Duo T7100 1800 2048 800
Core 2 Duo T7250 2000 2048 800
Core 2 Duo T7300 2000 4096 800

Core 2 Duo T7700 2400 4096 800
Core 2 Duo T7800 2600 4096 800
Pentium Dual-Core T2310 1466 1024 533
Pentium Dual-Core T2330 1600 1024 533
Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1733 1024 533

You may also be able to Core 2 Extremes and the new Penryns depending on power circuitry and BIOS. -
Hi Commander, and tell him he has no shot at soldering/unsoldering a BGA CPU! PGA or nothing at all!

All should be revealed in the CPU Guide.
CPU-Z should report the packaging of the current CPU (eg Socket 479 mPGA). This indicates the socket type. P means Pins, which indicates a socket.
The other aspect to consider is the BIOS support for newer and faster CPUs. Check the motherboard specs for what it supports.

First of all thank you for taking the time to answer
Now, if P means that they are socket parts ... does it also mean that I can use a T2050 - T7200 (Merom) or I have to buy a T2060 - T7100 (SR)?
That is the main question at the moment.
I cannot get the CPUs in that list (thx commander) cheap enough for my needs (I can use Penryn CPUs as a bios has been released but it looks like a few people had a dead motherboard after the upgrade so I will be waiting a year or so)
I am really looking forward to get this machine running! -

I already gave you a list of compatible processors...
T2050, T7200, T2060, and T7100 are all Socket M; they will not work on your board. -
Next time I will not rush bid on ebay!
Thanks again
