Wait, the G-series uses thunderbolt? I thought the plan for intergrating the TB into the MiDP in the G5/75 is cancelled?

I feel like the S430 is labeled wrong like several sites with the G75VW. On the Lenovo Australia and NZ websites they don't allow i5 with Thunderbolt. Still a possibility, though, so built-direkt.de could be right.

I got the information about T430 from this pdf from ThunderboltTechnology.net: PDF

this topic should be a sticky.

you should also include the specifications of each model as well as other notes such links to the model page, price, if it has soldered parts such as the cpu.

I can help if you want.

    S430 i5 thunderbolt I think it's really true.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thi...thinkpad-edge-s430-lounge-19.html#post8700832

thunderbolt on T430s is only present on i7 notebooks.
on the T430 people thought it would have too but it's now known it won't have. check the lenovo subforum.

    thunderbolt on G55
    http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?16883-G55-Thunderbold-Port

That PDF is amazing. it's made by intel. intel must certify thunderbolt products. as we can see msi gus II already is certified. they could sell it dam it. but we can also see the Bplus TH03, which means that TH05 thunderbolt egpu is really under certification and that we will see a product soon.
    thanks for sharing.

Ooh help making it better would be lovely.

I asked a GenTech representative today about Thunderbolt on the G55, and he called the Fremont Asus HQ and they said they had no intentions of replacing the current model, despite what the RoG Asus blog reports. So I'm assuming they are coming but if you order now it's still going to be the DisplayPort.

The PDF was for Computex 2012 (in Taiwan I think during May?), so things may have changed since then as far as how large the catalog of Thunderbolt hardware is.

The technology is still new and uses are few (for us mere mortals anyway) but it will come. For now its still on the expensive side and I'm not sure if I'd have it even if it were offered. A lot of things have to catch up before it can pay for itself.

I have updated the opening post with specs. Hopefully they're readable.

EDIT: I did a Live Chat with a Lenovo Rep on their website and they said that all versions of the T430s have Thunderbolt...do you guys think it's possible that they've decided to roll it out to the non-i7s?

I think that's not true. you have people here on the forum with several T430s versions that do NOT have thunderbolt. They say that only i7 versions have it.
Availability might change with the country.

I am surprised thunderbolt is mostly reserved for smaller form factor laptops. Where are all my high end large laptops with thunderbolts

thanks for confirming that. it makes sense since the cpu is integrated. so models variate on some specifications. in this case i5 and i7 have thunderbolt.

in T430s case also with integrated cpu, only the i7 version has thunderbolt.

S430 is the cheapest thunderbolt notebook. around $900. it's not available and it won't be in north america but it's already available in europe. the keyboard is compatible with S420 which has dozens of keyboard layouts, including international english.
too bad it has such a crappy gpu and integrated cpu.

I think we have to wait for the next generation for more thunderbolt notebooks. it really sucks.
but anyway we don't have any thunderbolt egpu device yet.

Gigabyte U2442 thunderbolt versions are delayed. they are indeed going to sell them in the future but just like the Asus the certification delayed everything. dam INTEL!!!
so we have to wait for a while. probably for the end of August.
Gigabyte confirmed it will not ship for now U2442 with thunderbolt. it might do it in november.

    EDIT:
Acer S7 will have thunderbolt. it's going to be released with windows 8.

it was expected, it will slowly trickle down to more consumer devices as the years go by, or die an unknown death. I think either way is plausible.

The T430s would be the best choice, given the build quality and the enterprise class support.

I agree that the T430 is the best choice right now, but unfortunately the displays (even the optional one) are quite bad.

Well, Haswell is bringing thunderbolt into the chipset so it will be there with pretty much any laptop once we get to Haswell. Not long to wait :)

AMD’s Lightning Bolt needs to hurry into mainstream in order to compete with what Intel's solution. Intel will implement it into the chip, I just hope OEMs make some appealing practical models.

it's not AMD first attempt. a few years ago called they made an AMD XGP yet only sony and acer implemented in 2 models in limited quantities. the devices used mobile graphic cards instead of desktop ones and therefore the gpu power was very limited, though more portable. it had a much higher bandwith then current thunderbolt without any bottleneck.

the thing is that AMD implements it it will be only on AMD notebooks and unfortunately Intel is much better on mobile cpu's. at least at medium high end platforms.

the AMD approach is much better because it's based on the pci-e interface giving the ability to eleminate any bottleneck. just compare intel thunderbolt with pci-express. it's very slow.

but anyway this is all worthless if this new interfaces are never or very little implemented. thunderbolt has been around for a lot of time yet only very few notebooks have it. not even 10 models....

one more to the list and as expected. hp spectre xt pro.
HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook 15t-4000 | HP® Official Store

imo a piece of crap. there's better options for lower price. it has a great HD touchscreen though. but anyway it's not even convertible tablet.... er.. I don't see the point on these form factors..
soldered cpu, only 1 ram slot, a ty integrated gpu, not so light @ 2.1kg. at least it has space for a normal 2.5" HDD unlike for example the acer S5.
imo the lenovo T430s is much better.

Will we see Thunderbolt on a high spec i7 3840/3940 with high end Nvidia card like 680 or 680mx?

Want/need the power now but always want to add eGPU at later date
