Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I want to replace the floppy disk drive on my laptop with something much more useful, such as a usb hub. The problem is, I can't seem to find something like that anywhere. Does anyone know if it even exists?![]()

sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
PCMCIA cards with USB ports do exist... No idea about modular bay hubs...

My guess is that you'll be looking into PCMCIA solutions very soon. -
Heh, thanks. I already looked at PCMCIA solutions and I don't like the fact it sticks out. I already regret getting a PCMCIA wireless adapter instead of a mini-card (Yes this laptop is old enough that it didn't come with a wireless card).
Anyway, I guess I'll just have to settle with the 3 USB 1.1 ports (YES, 1.1, not 2.0 lol) in the back. It's just so inconvenient to reach back there all the time.
PS: USB 1.1 is SO DAMN SLOW. -
Wow, what are you using if you don't mind me asking? When I grabbed my VAIO four years ago I think wireless was basically standard then
Though I do have a buddy who bought an HP a little bit before me that didn't get a WLAN card.

Sounds like you're working on an old piece of hardware, Noob.
It's amazing how well things hold up over the years. -
i in no way approve of the MODS made in the following link.. start with old un-needed lappy just to practice and learn.. or pay an expert... (not me)

look at what this guy did to an EeePc...
if he can squeeze all that in a 7" notebook,,, surely you can find room in that lappy of yours for an internal hub modification
later,

i just love that page.... -
Haha, actually I got this laptop for free. It's a Toshiba Satellite 2400 00UJXP. It originally belonged to my sister's friend. She bought it in 2003 I think. Anyway, she messed it up and told me to fix it for her (she caught a whole bunch of viruses and windows wouldn't boot and stuff), but before I had time to work on it she went and bought herself a new HP and she just gave this one to me lol.
I'm surprised this thing is still holding up. It's gotta be at least 5 years old. It has a Pentium 4 1.6GHz. A Toshiba motherboard that doesn't have the nice BIOS that we have today and it barely has any options in it. It doesn't allow any kind of customization (over/underclocking, over/undervolting, etc; I've tried SpeedFan and RMClock). But it's good enough for my university. schoolwork.
I think I'll just forget about added USB 2.0 ports to this lappy. I dun really want more stuff sticking out. The wireless adapter is already too much
EDIT:
P.S. The motherboard will not allow more then 512MB RAM. The laptop came with 256 and I bought a single 512 chip hoping to make it 768MB (so that the original 256MB doesn't go to waste) but lol it won't let me use it. So i just took out the 256 and I'm currently using a single 512MB.
I also painted it.
A USB hub that fits into a laptop's 3.5 floppy bay?
