I just got a laptop with a 650m Nvidia card and a user here has offered to custom flash my vBIOS using Team Viewer. I am somewhat reluctant to turn my machine over to a stranger but this guy seems to have helped other people here and I haven't seen anything in his post history to make me suspicious so ... is this a crazy idea or not?

I wouldn't flash a vBIOS in Windows, the best way of doing it is using MS DOS or Win98Boot etc. There are people here who can tell you how to do that (its not that difficult).

Doesn't sound like a crazy idea. It's doable using NvFlash in Windows after disabling the display adapter in Device Manager.

You're probably talking about Danish, as he makes those offers often enough.
I dont agree with generally anything he says but I havent heard of users reporting back a negative experience.Mastermind5200 likes this. -

Although knowledgeable, he often spews garbage, and either way, you really shouldn't flash a vBios in windows, even if you have to, do it yourself -
I would consider it, if I had a custom vBIOS to install, but I don't have one.
Yes, it is him. As long as your points of disagreement don't directly involve flashing the vBIOS I suppose I shouldn't take them into consideration. I think I'm going to go ahead and accept his offer.
Thanks to both of you and everyone else who responded! -

Then have him send you the BIOS and flash it in DOS. -
Should be done in DOS anyways.

He says he does not have a "ready to flash BIOS" because he always mods the existing vBios via team viewer.

He helped me out once using teamviewer and was able to flash my new 680m in windows with Nvflash. Only took him about 10 minutes total (Flashed or tweaked about 3 different vbios's to find the best one for me). He just likes to help people out, nothing to worry about.
He also gets into heated debates too about thermals though but it's all good. Sometimes heated discussions will get the best results/answers.Last edited: Jul 27, 2018hmscott, haints and Mastermind5200 like this. -
When possible flash in DOS, I’ve had too many flashes fail in windows to feel comfortable doing that ever again

Use safe mode instead. If you're using secure boot, windows is the only way. Never force flash vBIOS that way most issues can be prevented.

I appreciate you taking the time to weigh in, KY_Bullet. As I may have told you, I've accepted DanishBlunt's kind offer to flash my vBIOS. Thanks to you and everyone else who offered input in this thread!KY_BULLET likes this.
