I have never opened up one of these critters...is there any room to install a wireless nic or bt inside the case - and connect it to the mb?

Yes, you need to either need to take the keybaord off, or insert the miniPCI card in a socket accessed by a flap.

I'm pretty sure that you need to take the MB off. Take a look inside, and look how much space there is, and look at the dimensions of the card you want to install before buying. There will be instruction on how to take the keyboard off on Dell's support site. Just puch in your service tag no, and go to Documentation.
