OK, in device manager, there is an entire group of devices called "Other Devices"
Inside are the following:
Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Coprocessor
Modem device on High Definition audio bus
other pci bridge device
SM bus controller
Unknown Device
All of these devices have an exclamation mark and a question mark icon on them and all show this when properties are opened: " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."
These devices have been there, well, for as long as I can remember...not sure whether they were there even with Vista. I hadn't paid attention to them until now.
What are all these devices and how do I find their drivers...windows cannot do it by itself.

You can find the drivers on the manufacturers support site. From what you listed it looks like the drivers you're missing are the SM Bus Controller, 56k modem, maybe SD card reader and fingerprint readers and such account for the unknowns.
Basically, install every driver on the support site. -
IDK about the SD card reader...it's working splendidly and is displayed as SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
Fingerprint readers??? I don't think my laptop has that ability -
I was simply listing two common devices that people don't always think to install. As examples. All of those unknown devices are likely linked to such devices. Just browse through the support site to install the drivers, or don't worry about it, as you don't seem to use the hardware anyway.

Well, I found out it was the HP quick launch buttons...and I got the SM bus controller too. So scratch the "Unknown device" and "SM bus controller" out.
A group of devices not installed.
