I enherited my dad's ASUS g60j. Through a mishap in ordering for my other laptop, I had two sticks of 4GB DDR3L - 1600 available, so I gave them a chance.

Now, I can confirm that the Core i5 G60j will accept and use 8gb of RAM (though, using much more than 4gb during my test required multiple programs which likely was the cause of my overtaxed CPU).

If someone is interested, and can provide me with a more reliable test of ram capacity than I was able to muster (chrome, firefox, steam, modded skyrim, and polybridge open simultaneously), I'll be happy to test it out!

That would have worked, the RAM would run at 1066MHz.. 2 8GB sticks would be interesting if it worked

Maybe a bit old, but Nehalem is still perfectly usable till this day.

First question: What OS are you using?
If it's Windows 8 or 10, then it's normal as Windows allocates memory according to the amount installed. You'll find it'll run smooth even with 2GB or 4GB RAM.

Second, yeah it should take 2 x 4GB RAM no problem, the chipset is capable for that, 2 x 8GB would be a problem though.

Lastly, if you feel bored, try something like this:
Should see "out of memory" in no time ;)

hahahaha, good test. I started with 10k X 10k. Mem usage jumped up to 6.2gb and held steady. Had chrome running when I started the test, CPU was maxed out until I shut it down.

It's running Windows 10. I wasn't actually having any trouble running anything on it before. But figured, I had this memory. Might as well use it!

@drnarwhal just run prime95, it should eat all your memory. Also, I suggest disabling pagefile completely, to further improve performance - 8GB is good enough amount, though not that plenty.
