I have an AMD Rysen 5 laptop and I want to upgrade the memory for it. I have a fairly good understanding of making sure I get the same DDR 4 and getting the right speed. I know I want to buy a kit of two modules each 8gb totalling 16gb.

But what I'm not sure about is how IMPORTANT is the other specs like CL and the other memory timings relative to the memory module that I am replacing, does it have to be the EXACT same memory timings as the one that I am replacing or are the memory timings not critical relative to the module that I am replacing?

    Thanks appreciate any insight.

CL timings are as important as the speed of the RAM. Low timings can be as effective as overclocking the actual speed.

So in a nutshell, if you have Ram at 2400mhz CL 18 and puchase lets say another RAM which runs at 2666mhz CL 17, then the system will put the superior RAM to 2400mhz CL 18 as well, nerfing the performance.
