I checked the processor compatibility thread and it's listed as compatible but the fsb is 1066; will this work with my dell inspiron 1525? From what i've read it only supports up to an 800fsb processor but I've read elsewhere online that it will work. My mobo is a socket P(478) with intel GM965 chipset. Thanks.

no it is not supported... GM965 cipset doesn't support 1066MHz FSB processors like T9400... T9300 or T9500 will work but personally i would get the T9300 as it's just 0.2GHz slower than T9500 and way cheaper...

Thanks. I found one for a nice price but i'm not gonna spend £2-300 on a processor for my current machine as i'll be upgrading in a few months. I was going to get a T8100 or T8300 but the T9400 was actually cheaper; an engineering sample. If it was compatible i would have bought that!

it may not support 1066Mhz but its a socket P processor, won't it just be throttled back to 800Mhz?

^^^That's what i was wondering. Say, how much of a performance difference will i see between a T7250 and a T8100? The T8100 has 3mb cache and is .1ghz faster. Enough to justify the difference in price? I'm trying to upgrade as cheaply as possible. :)

I only had the wPrime 32M results:

    T7250 : 45.656 sec
    T8100 : 40.187 sec

    temperature:
    T7250 : idle=39-40C, max Load=66C
    T8100 : idle= 25-30C, max Load= 47C

All in same machine, same thermal paste, temperature before undervolt :)

Thanks for testing. That's quite a difference! I'll benchmark mine so i have a reference and do a comparison.

no problem, I have data for all processors in my sig LOL..

    for a comparison here's the T9300:

    wprime 32M = 33.562 sec
    Temperature: idle= 25-29C, max Load =55C

Notes that temperature may differ in different machine

what processor do you currently have? the 1525 is a budget machine, probably not worth upgrading the processor if you're replacing it soon. unless you have the single core celeron processor, might be better to get an SSD instead, and the pentium dual core processors are great value as well (if upgrading from a celeron)

    T9300 rulez! not biased....
but seriously its a damn good cpu, second or third best i think that will fit. as mentioned before the better T9500 is only very marginally better, 30pounds difference for me when i got mine, not worth the difference. but you may want to think about saving some cash towards upgrading notebook than gettin new cpu if ur going to do it anyway

    yeah I know.. sweet!

it won't hurt to treat the old pal with something new..
you can buy a T9300 and sell the current processor (which I guess it's a T7250?)
my journey on changing T5270 all the way to T9300 cost me total of $30
    which IMO very worth it!
It's half for performance upgrade and half-the fun! :p

    Heh! Just noticed that.

My 32M score was 53.928. I'll have to run the stress test again but current temp under normal use is 45-56C.

    My processor is a T2330.

    See previous post (T2330). :)

Yeah what you say is why i'm stuck on which processor to buy. I want one that matches the laptop well and gives me a significant performance increase. I was going to get a T7250 originally but i don't know if it will be enough for my requirements. So i'm looking at the T8100 or T8300 for overclocking potential as well as performance gains.

Actually i just put a WD Scorpio black 7,200 sata drive in but i haven't noticed as much of a performance increase as i thought i would. Disk r/w times seem only marginally faster than my previous drive which was a 5,400.

you wont notice that much of a difference between 5,400k and 7,200k. you'll notice a HUGE difference with an SSD though.

the T2330 is an ok processor. are you doing rendering or video editing etc?

first, check to see if your processor utilisation is more than 80-90% more than 80% of the time. if it is, chances are you'll benefit from a faster processor.

if not, you wont notice any speed difference.

Actually i put the 5,400 back in yesterday to deactivate some software and i felt the difference then. A lot slower during boot times, opening programs etc. Was definitely worth the upgrade. It will probably be the system drive in my next laptop or i'll use it as an external drive.

I'm using my laptop as a daw running Live 8, FL Studio,Maschine etc. My T2330 just isn't enough for some more processor intensive vst instruments and effects. I'm limited by the processor by how many effects and instruments i can use in a project. I need the cpu to give me more headroom to load more instruments and fx.

So i'm looking at the T8300 or the T7250. T7250 is a cheap upgrade but i don't know if i will see any significant improvement (apart from the benchmark results). The T8300 is a much better spec, runs cooler and when i upgrade i can probably put the processor in the new machine. Otoh, if the T8300 gives me a significant performance increase i won't need to upgrade. I'd only be upgrading for a performance increase, nothing more.

    Cheers.

Talking about performance-wise for the cpu,
here's the result of wprime 32M test for most of the processors in my sig,
hope it can help you.. you can test your own cpu for comparisson..

all in the same machine so it's a good measurement..

    T7250 2.0GHz/2M/800 : 45.656 sec
    T7700 2.4GHz/4M/800 : 36.672 sec
    T8100 2.1GHz/3M/800 : 40.187 sec
    T9300 2.5GHz/6M/800 : 33.562 sec

Thanks. How much of a difference do you see in real world performance between the T7250 and the T8100?

err between those two I didn't pay much attention on performance,
I was very overwhelmed by the great temperature so... my eyes were just keep on focusing on the temperature numbers .. LOL
    but it's noticable between T7250/T8100 to T7700/T9300 :D

I do a lot of compiling programs so I know which is faster or not ..but never had a stopwatch on that
