Hi all, i have recently purchased an Asus K75DE notebook (the eastern europe edition which means it comes preinstalled with MS Dos). Had to wait a few days for it since local retailers here only offer trinity models based on firm orders.

    The full specs are:
A8-4500m @ 1.9 ghz, 4 gb ddr3 (1600 mhz single dimm), 500 gb (5.4k rpm) hdd and 7670m 1gb DDr 3. (not the best trinity implementation out there, but the price was something i could afford).

I started installing windows 7 all went smooth, installed all the drivers and bloatware provided by asus again no problems and after that i decide to run the WEI tests (so far so good). During the first WEI test i had a coupple of bloatware popup messages and received an abysmal score for everything (at least i blamed it on that) about 2,9 minimum (video card) and 4,8 average, therefore i decided to run the test again after seting the profile for high performance/gaming everywhere and at the begining of the test BSOD 0x119 (invalid fence ID). Restart try again same issue. I decide that maybe there is a problem with updates and whatnot so spend a nice 3 hours updating windows until it wouldn't find any new updates, try again and same 0x119 bsod. Next up drivers: i download the latest drivers from the AMD site (using the self detect tool, so that i don't download by accident the wrong drivers) and now not only does it bsod on WEI tests it also bsods on occasion when attempting to open amd vision engine control center with the same 0x119 error. I try the drivers on the asus site and same issue.
Thinking it may be something squirelly about the dual graphics i go into device manager and see that from there i can disable the dual graphics and run solely on the 7670m (in the vision engine settings i can only disable the 7670 and run on the 7640g). I decide what the hell and try to disable it like this only to find out after a restart that the video card is running in safe mode because errors were detected and windows would act as if no drivers were installed for the video card at all. Quick re-enable everything, WEI test still churn out 0x119, vision engine control center still has the same random 0x119 so i go for broke to do some runs of 3dmark 11, thinking hey i don't care if it crashes on WEI it's not like all i'm going to do on the notebook is run non stop WEI tests.
First run of 3d mark on the performance test preset average 1.3 fps textures appearing and dissapearing between slideshow scenes and final score (overall score) P540 (futuremark claiming rightfully that my pc scored less than it should have). Ok run the test again and this time i even get artefacts and the same abysmal behavior (this time i didn't even let it finish). No matter, third time lucky this time even the dashboard that shows the fps would artefact and glitch out, stopped it before it could finish.

Still not giving up i said well windows 8 is out now, how bad can it be? Quick format everything, install windows 8 go for driver install .. when installing the video drivers the screen goes black and that is it. The notebook still runs (well at least the led for system power is still on) nothing happens after about 15 minutes, I shut down the notebook turn it back on and check the event viewer, however no error was recorded.

My guess is that i have some defective hardware (thinking of the 7670m as being the culprit), however the retailer claimed that it is a driver issue and that since it is a driver issue (i.e. software issue) it's not his problem and that i should contact AMD about it and wait for a driver update. Now in order to keep an open mind what do you guys think: defective hardware or driver issue?
Anyone else have similar issues with the trinity chips?
In theory i could exchange the notebook for a different model regardless within the next 10 days (they won't allow me to send this one back and get the same thing), but the only thing in my price range is an A10-4600m with 7470m notebook (15'' screen instead of the 17'' for the k75de) With the lowered resolution and somewhat beefier apu would the performance remain the same between the 2? (i don't plan to make this my default gaming machine or max out bf 3, skyrim or whatever, i know the limitations of the original config, however i do plan to at least play a game or two on this laptop eventually)

In closing i wish to apologize for the huge wall of text and for grammar/spelling mistakes.

MS DOS? In 2012??? Shakes head...

If the O/S doesn't install (and sounds like you've tried the top two) then the HARDWARE is defective.

Return this now (I don't even know if I would exchange it at this point; problems like this are an AMD 'feature', ime).

Doesn't matter what the actual issue is: if you keep this past the return period you will be stuck with a buggy setup that won't take kindly to sideways glances (let alone letting you actually use the system for something you want to do with it).

    Return it now.

    Good luck.

What you are experiencing is very unfortunate. I personally do not have a Trinity APU or 7670M but I have the next closest thing (Llano A8 and 6470M, dual-graphics). I've been following Trinity since its launch and I haven't heard of such issues (not that they don't happen, will happen, or possibly exist). If it was a common thing, we would've heard about it more.

    1. I've experienced a BSOD during a WEI run before. However, this known issue was corrected by Lenovo in the form of a patch over a year ago. This patch fixed the WEI BSOD (using either GPU) and maybe Asus needs to release a fix for your computer too. Just thinking out loud.

    2. Maybe your computer is truly defective. From everything you've tried, all fingers are pointing towards that. It sucks, but its not uncommon for an electronic component to fail even if its brand new (lemon). I also recommend you return it for a full refund, or at the very least the company that sold it to you can exchange it for all your troubles. After you've exhausted all software possibilities then yeah, its most likely hardware-related.

    3. If the company that sold you this (very likely) defective computer does not want to offer any kind of fix or corrective measure, I suggest you get in contact with a consumer protection agency or someone that can help you out in this tough situation. Either this company values your business and respects you as a customer or they don't (take you business elsewhere, there's other out there that will gladly take your business).

Yes in the year 2012 MS Dos ... knowing our local retailers in the year 3012 they will still put dos. Long story short a notebook that costs in the rest of the worlld 600$ here is more like 750$ and if you want windows with that feel free to add 150$ (buying externally is not really an option since you get royally screwed with taxes and waranty and end up paying almost the same for more inconvenience). No use going into long stories about why this unfair or economic theories and all that suffice it to say this is how it is and it is not really relevant to the problem.

In the original post i forgot to mention that i have no intention to hold out on a miracle bugfix cure to a problem that is most likely a hardware fault, however since i saw that there is a sizable knowledge base for trinity configs here, I would try (for argument's sake) to look into the matter further (I rarely leave things at google search didn't show up anything).

Now, I have talked with the retailer further and the notebook is already heading back to their offices as part of the return policy. Now they have offered me the choice of either a refund or a replacement unit, however as I mentioned before, because they don't agree that this is a hardware issue they refuse to replace it with an identical model so they offered 3 choices: Asus K55-DR (a10-4600m + 7470m and 4 gb of ram), Asus K56cm (i5 3317u, gt 635m, 4gb ram) and Acer Aspire V3-571G-53214G50Makk (i5 3210m with gt630m and 8ish gb of ram). When I say 8ish it is because it has a default 4gb 1066mhz dimm and a store offered promo of 4gb 1333 mhz, both asus models come with the standard 1600mhz ram.

I would lean to get another trinity model, however i have my doubts about the 7470 card since i can't find any results for 7660g+7470m game benchmarks and I do plan to play some games on the thing on occasion (some disciples 3, some older games which I know will run on it, the odd league of legends match, the odd starcraft 2 match, maybe a diablo 3/torchlight 2 crawl, some dawn of war 40k ... mostly things like that) even though the main plan is to use the notebook as a dev machine (mostly learning software development) and emergency backup in case my desktop has some component which requires replacing/warranty. I do know beforehand that i won't be maxing these games on these machines or the original config (i have no delusions there), however i have no clue as to how the trinity combo i was offered as a replacement would work.

dargor, I wonder if you could share your thoughts on picture quality generated by the screen of Asus K75DE and its general built quality, including the keyboard. I was unable to find any review online so I thought an opinion of a user would be a great alternative.
    Thanks
