What laptop is it from? Id check ebay for the lowest prices. Dont get one of those universal ones, get a regular oem one just like you have now.

guys this problem has gotten weird now.

when i switch off my laptop and charge its bettery ..no problems....the AC adaptor runs smoothly without overheating.

but when laptop is powered on or in standby mode..then the AC Adaptor starts overheating ..and suddenly in 10-15 mins shuts off.

when its cooled off then again it starts working normally.

what is causing the overheating problem? AC adaptor or Laptop?

    bump!

    any idea?

the AC Adaptor only overheats when Laptop is powered on..otherwise it charges the battery with no issues of overheating

I think it's a laptop problem. I think that if your AC adapter simply stops working, your laptop should go to battery power - not shut down.

    No no..

the Laptop runs on battery when the AC adaptor goes off.

but when the Laptop itself has been shut down by me ..then the AC Adaptor runs continously and charges battery and no heating up.

So the entire problem is caused when laptop is powered on and AC adaptor is connected to it..

Is it a laptop's motherboard problem or is it AC adaptor problem?

HP service center and support is closed for weekend hence i m asking u guys.

Too much load on the adapter. What external peripherals are you running?

Have you tried unplugging all the USB devices? Some OEM adapters are right at the limit or even a bit under just for the notebook itself.
