Im looking to upgrade my laptop with a new HDD.

I understand that I need to use a SATA for it to be compatible but im struggling to find upto date information about the best Hard disk for the price.

Im looking to spend around £60-£100 depending on the best bang for buck.

    Running a 6920G with 320 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm

You can get a new hdd from ebay for about under £50 try there, and SATA would be better so look for them over IDE.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for, Dallers.
If you're looking for raw capacity, Western Digital has 640GB and 750GB 5400rpm spinners.
If you're looking for pure speed, I got three words: Seagate Momentus XT. It's got a small SSD coupled with a large hard drive, and is more or less the best of both worlds.

Moving topic to the Hardware forum for better assistance. This isn't an Acer-specific issue, and they'd more likely have the info you need.

TehSuigi is absolutely 100% correct. If you're looking for pure storage capacity, then a 640GB or 750GB drive would be a nice bump in storage for you, within your price range.

If you're looking for performance, then the Seagate Momentus XT would be an excellent move for you within your price range. It is a hybrid 7200rpm 500GB drive with 4GB of SLC NAND memory (same kind of memory used in top-end enterprise SSD's). You would notice a significant performance boost coming from your current 5400rpm drive.

The other option for you, if you want pure performance, is to go with an SSD (Solid State Disk). They are on the bleeding edge of drive performance, and will be the best-of-the-best in terms of pure speed. However, they are pricey compared to mechanical hard drives... a fast 128GB drive will run you around $250 - $350 USD. But if you want performance over capacity or value, then an SSD is the only way to go.

Seagate momentux XT gets my vote too.

But if you want capacity: Seagate 5400.7 640GB is faster than WD 640GB.

I can attest to that - the WD Scorpio Blue I have (WD6400BEVT) is a bit of a slowpoke at times, but it was out earlier when I needed the capacity upgrade.

Thanks for the advice im probably going to go for the Seagate Momentus XT im bidding on one at the moment im also looking to grab the 4670 from MXM as well.

Im still waiting for a better looking laptop to come out before I go for a replacement trying to hold onto the old 6920 for as long as possible but the last two things I need are HDD and GPU then ill be happy for another year. :D

    Thanks for the advice!
