Currently I am looking to determine a relative grasp on the true differences between the differing features of the Alienware m9700 and m9750 (both configured to fit my budget)

The processor and graphics cards are the only real differing factors.

    AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML40 2.2GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
    Dual 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled

    vs.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
    512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX

I assume the Intel is better, but could you help my grasp the performance difference for today and in the future? Thanks.

Can't you wait for the Santa Rosa and DX10 ?
(In order not to experience the "buyers remorse" a month later)

Yes the Intel will be faster. The CPU is dual core and the go7950gtx beats the 2 go7900gs in sli in most benchmarks. Also some games dont support sli or have problems with it so it is better to get the stronger single card.

Any idea what the timetable for Santa Rosa on an Alienware would be though?

Have to wait for the geforece8700M/8800M to come out or what ever ATI is planning for highend gaming. And then Alienware is never the first to release new stuff. I wouldnt say that they are slow but they just test longer then others.
I would think not before September.

Well, Alienware is a high-end gaming machine supplier and now they have been bought by DELL, so I think they should adopt them fairly quickly.
You can also keep an eye out for the Clevo with the 8700.
The high-end (e.g. 8800/8900) will be out in the summer.
But 8600GT seems to be almost as powerful as 7900GS already.

I like to play games and when I do I want them to display well. I'm really not that serious about performance or gaming, though I still do want something that can easily power through what I want it to.

Considering that, does anyone think I will be regretful by buying the m9700. Even though it isn't the best and newer technology is coming out soon, is the m9700 with a AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML40 2.2GHz and
    Dual 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled still a good notebook?

Valuewise, it's better you choose another notebook rather than this... How much are you paying for this?

Yep (Sager above), you can take a look at the Clevo forum as well since the top line of Alienware are actually rebadged version of Clevos, and they are seriously cheaper than Alienware..
