Hi, I recently purchased a Gateway MX6426 from BestBuy with the AMD Tourion 64 "ML-40" 2.2 Ghz processor. I noticed a lot of similar priced and configured notebooks seem to use the AMD Tourion 64 "MK-36" 2.0 Ghz...

My question -- Is there a noticeable difference between the ML-40 and the MK-36?? Which is better?

Yours is faster (comparable to a desktop Athlon 64 3700+). The difference is the amount of L2 cache and energy requirements, I believe.

Yours is the faster processor, although the performance increase will be barely perceptible, for most applications.

If you are not considering upgrading your machine later on, then your processor is better than MK-36. However, you will get slightly shorter battery life. The CPU TPD will probably be the same, but DDR RAM will consume more than DDR2(only a little :D).

MK-36 just give you an opportunity to upgrade to X2 when 65nm price is down. If you are not a DIY fan, then there is no difference, you won't change your CPU on your own anyway.
