Would the top dog of AMD A10 series be better than an i5 2500k for gaming? or do people even have enough info on the A10 series?

I'm trying to know by price and such so I could care less about the i7 cpu's as an extra $100 won't get you much better game performance in this situation.

CPUs are all pretty much equal in terms of gaming performance. The only difference you'll notice is with games that absolutely love having more cores, like Rockstar titles. I don't think you can go wrong with either; if I was making a desktop now I'd pick whichever is cheaper (probably the A10, but I haven't seen it yet).

I'd be more concerned about the GPU than CPU, as that has a more obvious impact on gaming performance.

we don't know prices just yet. I think for a trinity sleekbook was said to be around 649 euros although it didn't say what kind of Trinity apu they were going to use.

Eh, even an i3 is good enough for just gaming. Here's a detailed article explaining why CPUs aren't really important these days. For example, here are some CivV benchmarks comparing the i5-2500K, i3-2120, and A8-3850. Pretty much all the same...

well ya, I saw that most AMD cpu's were dirt cheap so i was thinking I'd probably go with that (if it's cheap too) although I'm willing to spit out some more $$ if the i5 was better.

I just get excited about new hardware so I'm always curious on the best bang for the buck. :)

Ha, I hear you. Right now I'm checking out the falling prices on 256GB SATAIII SSDs and wondering if I should jump on the deal or not.

Anyway, I'd save the difference between the i5-2500K/A10 and a lower CPU and use that money to invest in a better GPU or a better display or a SSD of some sort (SATAII is still a fast beast compared to even a 15k HDD).

You're absolutely correct. Should have thought of that in the first place. more $$ toward the gpu

2500k hands down but as its been said getting any modern quad core CPU with decent clock speed and a beefy gpu will yield the best results for gaming.

Except you don't need to spend a lot of money on a CPU. I've already established that CPUs don't matter anymore.

Why buy an 15-2500K + GTX 5xx when OP can buy a **better gaming computer** with an i3-2120 + GTX 6xx? Just pulling GPUs out of my (censored).
